Sea to Sky Gondola Open Squamish, BC

The new Sea to Sky Gondola is now open in Squamish, BC and it’s been a big hit so far!  What can visitors expect when they arrive? Well breathtaking views, a wonderful ride on a state of the art Gondola that lifts you high above the mountains, hiking trails and a suspension bridge. But there’s so much more than that.

The ride up to the top of the summit lodge gives visitors a spectacular view of Howe Sound with BC’s greenest forest and surrounding mountains. Each Gondola has the capacity to  hold 8 passengers at a time, so a family can ride together. And each Gondola is wheelchair and stroller accessible, making travel easy for anyone.

Once at the top visitors can experience a wide range of outdoor fun, including walking trails, viewing platforms and the Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge, plus rock climbing to backcountry routes and more.  And of course there is something to eat!

A Bit of Triva

  • The Sea to Sky is situated between Vancouver and Whistler
  • It was created for those active and those wanting to kick back and relax
  • Did you know roughly 10 million people travel the road to Sea to Sky each year?
  • The Gondola is actually situated between Shannon Falls! Check out the falls here!
  • Sea to Sky has 5000 square foot deck at the Summit Lodge for everyone to enjoy.
  • Suspension bridge is 100 meters with a 360 degree viewing angle.
  • Soon visitors will be able to enjoy biking trails!

Food for Thought

The Sea to Sky Gondola doesn’t disappoint once you reach the top. If you get hungry there is something for everyone. Basecamp Cafe offer hot and cold beverages, gelato (yum!) baked goods, and snacks for you to take on your adventures. You can cop a squat under some trees and enjoy the view while you eat.

Summit Restaurant and Edge Bar is the only place you can grab a bit 885 meters above the Sound fjord. With talented chefs to cook up fresh local cuisine, there’s something for all at the Summit. You can eat inside or out, enjoy the alpine peaks or enjoy the deck. And of course you can grab a beer or wine to enjoy (but don’t drink and drive!)

Summit Tea House is located inside the lodge and offers pre-packaged snacks for you to take along with you on your hike or car trip. It of course has an array of favorite blends of tea for you to enjoy. Don’t see something on the menu, let them know and maybe they’ll stock up on your favorite blend.

The Sea to Sky has hiking adventures for all levels. In fact there are so many trails you couldn’t possibly do them all in one day. Shannon Basin trail, Skyline trail, Al’s Habrich Ridge, Back Country trails, Wrinkle Rock trail, Seat to Summit trail and more…

The drive alone to the Sea to Sky Gondola is incredible. You won’t be disappointed. To take advantage year round Adults can buy a yr pass for $99 and family passes can be purchased for $249. They even have a Buster the Dog Downloadable Pass only for those wanting to bring their fur-friends on the Gondolas to enjoy hiking. The cost is $25 and $15 of it goes towards the SPCA, which is fantastic!

So what are you waiting for? Take the opportunity to experience something together as a family. Hop on board the Sea to Sky and take a trip into the heavens. For more information follow Sea to Sky on Facebook and on Twitter @seatoskygondola

Did you get a chance to ride the gondola, Jody? We are thinking of taking the kids there and experiencing this. It’ll also give us an excuse to check out shannon falls and have a picnic…making it a day trip!

I haven’t yet, a friend of mine went. We are waiting for a really sunny day to drive in and do it. For us it’s a two hour drive with the kids, so we’d have to make a full day trip but well worth it I think.

We live in Victoria, but have a daughter in Vancouver and I look forward to making it over there and riding this gondola! I can imagine the views are out of this world!
