Canon Rebel SL1: Mill Lake Water Park

LIGHTS … CAMERA … ACTION!  That’s what I feel like yelling when capturing kids at play. They run and jump, move here and there. Honestly trying to get a great shot with any camera can be difficult when trying to get kids to stay still long enough so you can actually see their smiling faces. But not if you have the Canon Rebel EOS SL1 – the world’s smallest DSLR camera!

This week I headed to the water park at Mill Lake here in Abbotsford to put the camera to the test using the Action shot feature. The action feature captures everything moving and slows it down enough you can capture those moments without missing a beat. Being I had 3 fun loving boys in tow with me, my son and his two friends.  I just knew there would be no way I could get them to slow down once we arrived at the park.

Water Park Fun!

A splashing good time Look at me go Loving it!

I love the details the action filter captures. I’m standing about twenty five feet away from the kids as I didn’t want the camera getting wet, and the camera on zoom picked up every detail.  I love the way the water splashes off the ground, plus their smiling faces. The Rebel didn’t miss a beat. I can’t wait to get the larger telescopic lense for 300x zoom. But for now my 50x zoom does the trick for every day life.

Rainbow of Colors

See the rainbow?

Okay I have to show you this. I didn’t notice this while I took this shot. But this just goes to show how much detail the Canon Rebel actually captures. See the rainbow in the far left corner. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it. You can actually see the different colors clearly — red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. I think that is so cool!  So even if I can’t see all the little things. I know my Rebel has got my back so that I don’t miss anything.

More Water Fun!

I love their smiling faces true mom moments up close and personal

After the boys played at the park, we sat down for a picnic. With school out of session, it’s hard finding things for the kids to do. But we enjoyed some PB & J sandwiches, Krave snacks, popcorn and juice boxes before heading to the playground for the kids to have some more fun!

Trace climbing the space bars Being silly Just hanging around

I stayed using the action filter for all of these shots. I also found using the stabilizer on the camera’s lense kept the shots as clear as possible as the boys moved around the playground. I was able to snap photo after photo without missing a beat. I love burst shots because you can just weed through the ones you don’t want later, and pick out those gems you want to keep.

Why I Love my Canon Rebel EOS SL1

Trace is chilling out. My boy! My favorite picture

As a mom living with a child with special needs, a husband with a brain injury, moments like these are important. It helps us remember good times. I love my Canon Rebel because it allows me to take professional photos at half the price it would cost to hire a photographer. The Rebel can be purchased at Staples for $599 which is a great investment as far as I’m concerned because these moments don’t last forever.
