Being a parent it’s difficult finding programming and shows for your kids to watch that not only keeps them happy but doesn’t cause you to stick a fork in your eye. Giving up the freedom to pick and choose is just one of the many sacrifices a parent makes. Thank goodness we have movies released in the theater that
Thank goodness we have movies released in the theater that aren’t only fun for the adults but great for kids, too. Our entire family enjoys superhero movies. Comic books we grew up with we can now share on the big screen with our kids, and the best part is most of them usually end up on Netflix later.
This summer is going to be a big one for Marvel. My boys have already chosen their line-up of movies to watch or have already seen such as Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 which looks like it’s on its way to a billion dollar worldwide gross with a production budget of about $200 million—and it probably won’t even be the biggest Marvel movie of 2017.
We’ve still got Thor: Ragnarok coming in November, and this summer’s Spider-Man: Homecoming has already proved to be a huge hit. It’s no wonder that the movies have this kind of success. The studio pours money into the projects and advertises them tirelessly. But another reason the Marvel movies are particularly unstoppable is that they’re great for the whole family to enjoy.
The best part about Marvel movies is they actually are appropriate for kids and adults. In fact, we are their target audience. For me it’s a nostalgic quality, reminding me of my favorite superheroes growing up from my childhood, and for my boys, it’s a fresh introduction to new heroes which gives us as a family a way to connect.
I think what draws us in is the larger-than-life action sequences and special effects in bringing characters we grew up with to the big screen. On top of that, the immense talent coming from these franchises means there is more to appreciate that goes beyond fight scenes and big explosions. It’s been said that every likable actor will eventually appear in a superhero movie, and it’s starting to feel that way. F
Old pros like Anthony Hopkins, to thriving A-listers like Cate Blanchett and Robert Downey Jr., and up-and-comers like Chris Pratt and Chadwick Boseman, Marvel has enough talent to appeal to picky cinephiles while catering to the action-adoring masses.
But it’s not just in the movies we get to delve into these characters and storylines. Marvel is bigger than movies. Videos games, for instance, are a huge hit among children where you can pick and choose your characters, along with mobile games like Marvel Future Fight and Marvel Contest of Champions designed primarily for younger audiences.
On the other hand, there is also an online branch of Marvel gaming aimed distinctly for us adults. I can play the most popular slot games available, with all my favorite superheroes and that is a big reason for the success of these types of entertainment. Enjoying real money and online gaming with Iron Man, Thor and The Avengers making a major splash of fun!
Few parents will argue that it’s a winning combination. Superheroes and a good bowl of popcorn help keep the kiddos busy and happy for an hour or two, giving us parents a chance to turn our brains off and just enjoy some quality time together. I think that’s why Disney and Marvel have such a winning formula in the same way Pixar does in making movies that are just downright enjoyable for everyone.
