How to Make Your Own DIY Kitchen Island

There is nothing like building something yourself, especially if it’s easy. Lately, I’ve been looking at many DIY projects I wish to complete or at least give a go at. I came across one DIY project from Better Homes and Gardens that shows you how to make your own DIY Kitchen island, something I’ve always wanted.

Now if you are like me, storage is a must, and having the right amount of storage and space, especially if your kitchen is small is even more important. Right now I have a huge storage closet sitting in my kitchen. I’d love something more functional which is why I thought of making my own DIY kitchen island, but had no idea how to go about doing it.

I love the color of this DIY Kitchen Island. Although I wouldn’t put wheels on it. I find the wheels just make it move more often than not, even when lockable which is annoying. But I love the storage space that this DIY Island creates, along with the storage cupboards it offers to put the extra things you may need on hand. You can purchase an Ikea Expedia shelf and make your own DIY Kitchen Island quite simply.

Here are some pretty cool add-ons for your DIY Kitchen Island that you can have if you don’t want just baskets. I personally love the look of baskets and I love the paper towel holder. I never have paper towel because I have nowhere to put it, yet need it all the time. This creative solution makes having it on hand much easier.

Build your own kitchen island from two sofa tables and a countertop. This custom solution sports plenty of storage, plus DIY bragging rights.

  1. The kitchen island is great! I have always wanted to have one and I think that it is a great idea to think of making it myself. I definitely need some extra storage space. Thanks for sharing!

  2. That’s such a creative little island! My kitchen is humongous, and probably has enough room for a 5″ by 7″ island in the middle. I struggled to decide how I would put some storage in it though. Now I’m considering those square IKEA book shelves, back to back, and maybe some stone over the top!

    1. Ikea bookshelves rock, they can be used for so many things. It’s how we are going to make our island, cheaper and way easier and you can paint the color with chalk paint, goes on nice on Ikea products.
