When it comes to my home, I love doing both structural and home decor renovating ideas. Switching out a kitchen cabinet to doing a makeover on that retro dresser that was such a good find. I love to dive in and create wonderful spaces that make people want to come and visit and maybe even stay a little while. A place to call home.
Creating the perfect space for your home requires attention to detail, a little bit of imagination, and some type of goal to help make your dream a reality. Whether it is installing an in-ground swimming pool, creating a backyard oasis, putting in a sauna, or even a double-story extension to your house, big renovations require planning and execution done in a timely fashion so you can reap the benefits of your new found created space.
Here are a few ideas we’ve got planned for our home with regards to both renovating our renter’s space, and home decor items we know will make our dream rooms come to life!
I wouldn’t even show you my bedroom right now because it’s so awful. We have a king-size bed on a split box spring on the floor. Yuck!
Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love our Polysleep mattress which we got last year right before we move into the 2-bedroom 8 plex we now call home. But our bed needs a frame.
I love everything farmhouse and industrial. Mix that with a little vintage and boho, and you’ve got comfort and style. Here are some amazing finds to help to create a bedroom that is both inspiring and relaxing.
Nothing screams farmhouse / industrial like the Sagstua bed-frame from Ikea. Retails for less than $300 dollars, this bed frame lends an elegant flair with its gold trim and clean lines. It can be used both with or without the base slats which are sold separately. Needless to say, the Sagstua is high up on our list of “must-have” things for our bedroom makeover.
I am a huge pillow freak! I love pillows, all shapes, and sizes, plush and fluffy. But my favorite material lately is all-natural. These Heddamaria pillows from Ikea cost $14.99 are 16 x 26 made with natural hemp and cotton, and they are the perfect choice for any farmhouse decor. The color of warm white and wheat will match any style or color pallet. I will be grabbing a few of these on my next trip out.
You can’t have pillows without bedding. Oh, and there are so many choices to choose from. Lately, for me, I’ve been leaning towards a little boho in style. I love earthy tones, macrame wall hangings, and anything with pom-poms and tassels is just fun, which led me to this amazing white fringed 100% cotton duvet from Amazon.
I know white might make you shy away but don’t let it. The crisp and natural look of white bedding is something you will love.
One thing that is important to have in any bedroom is proper ventilation. Whether that means hiring a contractor to put in new windows, to buying yourself an air conditioner, proper airflow is important to getting a good night’s sleep.
Our bedroom has the worst airflow ever. I hate it. So we have decided to put in some ceiling fans, such as this one we found at Ikea (of course) for only $119.
I love the simple design and the three blades provide a low impact on the motor providing ample airflow to help cut through the summer heat.
From that perfect vase to those trendy lamps, shop with your heart and let your inspiration soar. Let the items speak to you, and remember to always go for function over the way something just looks. Everything in your bedroom should be touched, usable and enjoyed because your bedroom is your sanctuary. Here are a few more finds I know my bedroom will love, and make sure to stay tuned as I dive into doing an office makeover.
