How to Create the Perfect Holidays Nails

Having fabulous fingers while I type keeps me happy. I know it is silly but it’s true. Each season I change up my colors to reflect not only how I’m feeling but what the latest trends have going on which I paint on my fingers and toes for the world to see. During the holidays my nails take a beating. After running around for Christmas, finishing up the Turkey dinner and then all those dishes, my nails pay the price. Rita Remark Canadian nail stylist has some helpful tips that I enjoyed following her favorite Essie colors to help your nails stay looking fabulous all year long!

Nail art for the holidays doesn’t have to be complicated and it certainly can be achieved at home according to Rita. She uses Essie’s “Penny Talk” adding one dot or two of the metallic nail polish dipped with a bobby pin to the middle of each nail giving it a finished and classic look. You can even create “French Tips” using this dot system that makes your nails look shimmery.

“You can pain a line of gold polish across the tip of a bare nail to give it the balance of glam meets minimalism”, says Rita. “Metallics can also act as a neutral, so you can wear this style with everything!”

Here is some of my favorite polishes from Essie that I keep on hand whenever I want to spice up my nails. These are popular, so they might be hard to find online but worth ordering because they help achieve maximum results and I love them!

Two of the hottest shades this year were red and black. I love “Wicked” because it’s more a black cherry and cleverly captures both colors with equal balance. Suitable for the holidays and well after, this vampy shade looks absolutely incredible with a super glossy top coat such as Essie’s “Gel Setter” which dries so friggin fast, I love it!

Go Go Geisha

I love this cool mauve-nude color which is one of Essie’s best sellers. You can see why. It was released last fall, but it’s a contemporary color, great for french tips and offers a pretty balance to anything glitter or gold you might be wearing. It’s also one of the hottest wedding shade, and you don’t have to be a bride to enjoy it!

Smokin Hot

The name says it all with a smoky, flattering hint of violet. Purples are one of my favorite hues for polishes, and this polish has an almost charcoal tint to it that goes with everything and anything I might wear!

Penny Talk

Metallics are my fav when it comes to polishes and I’m just about out of this one. Penny Talk is a warm rose-gold metallic which you can use over your entire nail or as an accent to any nail art design you wish to create. Great for any holiday, it’s got style and will perfectly coordinate with what you are wearing. Looks great as a stand alone on your toes, too!

You can find these and many more shades at along with tons of nail art tutorials to help you achieve the look you want long after the holidays are over. So keep your look going and remember to share your look with the hashtag #essielove so we give you a big-hearted like on your style.

I love Essie. I was a nail biter for 42 years.. I stopped, started and quit again 119 days ago when I quit smoking.

I’m really enjoying my nails. My husband got me a beautiful electronic 15 pc manicure set for my birthday…seems to be a huge passion with me, my nails. Every week I buy myself 2-3 bottles of nail polish.
