One of my favorite things to eat during the holidays is sweet treats. Growing up mom used to make these delicious looking but strange dessert treats called Chocolate Macaroons’ or ‘Hot Rods’ as my Nana used to call them.
It’s a quick and simple and an OH-SO-GOOD recipe. These treats the kids can even help you make. The recipe is that simple. Plus, it doesn’t require a ton of ingredients either.
So let’s get to the Holiday Hot Rods recipe!
- 2 cups white sugar
- 1/2 cups butter
- 1 cup coconut
- 1/2 cup milk
- 3 cups oatmeal
- 6 tsp cocoa
Melt butter and cocoa first (that way its smooth). Add milk and sugar.
Bring to boil over medium heat for 2 minutes.
Add coconut and oatmeal.
Drop by tablespoonfuls onto wax paper and put into the fridge to cool.
Then piece them out and either put them into a container or zip lock bags for the freezer.
When you are ready to serve take them out 1/2 hour before guests arrive.
No matter what you make during the holidays, have fun baking and whipping up your favorite dishes. The more love you put into each thing you make, the more delicious it will turn out!
