New LG G6 Smartphone Review

It’s true that no matter where we go or what we do having a smartphone on us is something that is required. Most of us use our phones daily for work, entertainment, to look things up online, but many also use their smartphones to capture those important moments in time. Introducing the LG G6 one of the best smartphones on the market to help you capture your summer!

Design

One of the most powerful smartphones I’ve ever used, The LG G6 packs a whole lot of oomph into this sleek mirror backed design. One of the first features I noticed was that LG opted for a larger 18:9 ratio display providing a much taller panel for the user, rather than the typical 16:9 ratio used commonly on almost every single other device. It’s 5.7-inch screen is a huge jump from the G5 and yet the phone doesn’t appear to be any bigger than G5 and it feels great in your hand, and even less bulky than my favorite LG G4

This larger display doesn’t always fit media properly, showing a black box around videos on Youtube for instance. But it’s hardly a deal breaker, especially when LG allows you to switch between Compatibility (16:9), Standard (16.7:9) and Full Screen (18:9) with a swipe down from the top of the screen.  And the display itself is quite impressive with true blacks and vivid colors, plus it’s the first to have Dolby Vision.

You cannot shy away from the attractive and thin design of the LG G6 when in comparison to the Samsung S8, both equally gorgeous. The G6 sports Gorilla Glass 5 on the back and surprisingly only Gorilla Glass 3 on the front.

I suggest users purchase a tempered glass front plate for all their smartphones in case you drop it. It will help protect the beautiful front panel display.

Just below the camera which offers two front facing 13-megapixel powerhouses is the fingerprint sensor. I love that LG has the sensor in this location. It’s a major gripe of mine as the Galaxy S8 has its sensor located in a weird spot where my finger can’t reach. LG’s placement is perfect and more natural for picking up the phone and using your fingerprint to turn the display on immediately.

The LG G6 has an IP68 rating which is in demand nowadays with most smartphones. Meaning you can withstand a drop in the tub or toilet. But be cautious as this only applies to fresh water. No salt water accidents or swimming pools. Though you can purchase cases that will cover you all around.

Performance

I won’t go into the performance of the phone too much, other than to say there is absolutely no lag seen. The G6 is fast! Running multiple windows at a time, games that function as you’d expect and switching apps is seamless. It’s 4GB of ram is plenty and although it would’ve been nice to see it ship with 64GB of space as the Galaxy S8 offers. The G6 allows for expandable storage for all your daily tasks and needs.

Camera

Now here is where the LG G6 truly shines over ever other smartphones, even the Galaxy S8. The camera as I said has two camera sensors sitting at the back of the device. One a 13-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization and the other a much wider view which allows you to take boxed shots (2 photos) at once. One facing in and one out for a unique perspective on capturing those moments. I love this on the G6.

The camera’s colors and modes are super easy to use. The front facing camera now allows wider viewing angles, so you can get more into your shot when taking a selfie, and like the G5 also allows this wider viewing angle while taking video or photos wherever you go.

You can now get more into your background with the wider viewing angle

Some people say that the LG G6 camera lacks depth. I don’t think so. I think it takes great shots in low light. It’s focus is easy and smooth. The colors are vibrant and rich. Here are some more shots taken with the camera.

The shot above was taken on full zoom from a million miles away, and you can still see the details without it being so overly pixelated you can’t render the photo at all. I’m impressed.

Summary

If you are looking for a smartphone to capture your summer look at the LG G6. It’s fast, has an amazing display, a sleek and rich design, with so many options and choices, the camera is amazing, along with the sound quality and call quality you deserve to have in an every day phone while on the go.
