8 Ways To Keep Your Holiday Spirit Alive

Shopping, baking, running around, going over those wish lists, dealing with crowds, cranky people, drivers on the road. It’s no wonder we can tend to lose our holiday spirit during the holidays.

I love Christmas and everything it embodies, but sometimes even I can get a little grinchy now and then. Here are 8 Tips to help you keep your holiday spirit going.

Tip #1 – Check Out Those Holiday Lights

When your feeling in a less than festive mood, jump in your car and go for a drive to check out your local holiday light displays. You wouldn’t believe how much joy it can bring just seeing those twinkling lights glow.

Tip #2 – Dress Up In Your Favorite Holiday PJ’s or Clothes

Do you have an adult Christmas onesie? I know you do. Or how about that ugly Christmas sweater that you are too ashamed to say you really want to wear. Well, forget what everyone else thinks.

Jump into your favorite holiday outfit and lounge around the house, or better yet go to a party to show off your holiday fashion sense. Either way, dressing the part is sure to perk up your mood.

Tip #3 – Bake Up Some Holiday Treats

There ain’t nothing like something sweet or spicy to perk up your holiday humdrum. So get to the kitchen and whip up your favorite holiday goodies. I love sweet treats during the holidays. Things like Peppermint Candy Cane Brownies, Shortbread Cookies, and even Pumpkin pie can be had all year round.

Tip #4 – Watch Some Holiday Movies

Nothing can help you beat the holiday blues like watching your favorite holiday movies. I will admit I begin watching my holiday movies right after Halloween. I can’t help it. I love Christmas stories. Anything with cheesy romance or stories that reflect helping others and giving. So grab some popcorn, take a peek at My Holiday Movie List and see something grabs your attention.

Tip #5 – Change Your Electronics To Reflect The Season

I know most people don’t think of this, but changing the electronics we use to reflect the holidays can help boost your spirit. Add a new holiday photo to our desktop, change your cell phone background or maybe even add some music. I’m using the photo above for my screensaver because it just makes me smile.

Tip #6 – Listen to Holiday Music At Home or in The Car

Listening to holiday music is a great way to get into the spirit of the season. Don’t know where to find songs. Check out Youtube. Punch in Holiday classics or find a radio station that is currently playing festive tunes. It will add a surefire bounce to step. Trust me!

Tip #7 – Make Some Holiday Crafts

Make some decorations, crafts, photographs anything you want. Decorating during the holidays can be fun. It’s even a great way to create some homemade Christmas presents for someone you love. Visit your local craft/dollarstore and pick up the items you need. Many places also have kits to get you started.

Tip #8 – Read Some Holiday Stories

I love holiday stories. Romance, Drama, Action it doesn’t matter. This year I went to a local bookstore and bought an anthology of Christmas stories and fables. It has my favorite in it “Twas The Night Before Christmas” along with around 30 other stories and songs. I’m going to pass it on to my son for him to read to his children and create a family tradition. You can, too, make it a habit and read a story aloud with the kids around you.

No matter what you do to get into the holiday spirit, whether it’s visiting a certain Christmas store or going for a walk in the snow. Remember that the holidays and the spirit you feel comes from within you and can last all year long and not just once a  year.

What do you do to get yourself into the Holiday Mood?

I always want to get into baking (tis the season) but never do!! I eat a lot of baked goods tho lol…just never make them myself. definitely need to start do so though. I think it means more that way when you bake and eat your own goodies. so much tastier too. we love creating holiday crafts. Always fun to get my daughters together and make some things for the grandparents

I agree it means more when you snack on goodies you make yourself. I have to push myself every year to do baking.

Sometimes it’s hard to keep the spirit up no matter what you do! I can get so overwhelmed so quickly and easily. This year has gone a little better but it helps we had money stashed aside. We finished everything yesterday including wrap. The only thing left for us to do now is to tag the gifts from Santa, but we forgot to buy those lol.

LOL I forgot stocking stuffers of all things, I have to run out and buy them tomorrow.

I’m doing all of these and more. I even decorate my car for Christmas! I have a few Christmas hats that have lights on them that I wear. I have tons of “ugly” Christmas sweaters. You should see the inside and outside of my house! I LOVE Christmas.

I meant to ask Cheryl, how do you decorate your car? I would love to do that. I may write a post about it ha-ha.
