Summer camp is something I remember as part of my childhood memories as being one of the best times of my life. Now it is time for me to ship my son off for a week, and my nerves are always on overload.
Organizing what he needs to bring is essential. I hate forgetting to pack things for him, especially when he has special needs. Forgetting things like his favorite pillow and toothbrush, okay not great but we can get by.
Sunscreen is a must as is NO electronics. So this year I discovered 5 must have things kids need to pack for summer camp so they can enjoy themselves and make memories of their own.
My son has a sensory disorder but all kids need a pair of proper sunglasses to wear to camp. Why? Because even kids without disabilities can headaches from the sun caused by not having the proper protective eyewear. We picked up these very cool polarized shades for our son online for cheap but you can head to Walmart or even the dollar store to grab a pair of glasses.
Pop Up Laundry Hamper
It might seem silly but kids clothes get dirty at camp, especially if they go swimming. The smell is beyond incredible when they come home and I hate having wet, dirty clothes mixed in with clean ones not worn but now need washing.
I found this pop-up recycling bin online that is perfect for dirty laundry. It has three slots for organizing dirty socks and stinky underoos. The best part is it folds up for easy packing and is fully washable, holding tons more than you think. You can purchase this pop up on Amazon.ca here https://amzn.to/2NSoARx
I cannot stress enough how an itchy head full of bugs can put a damper on camp. Lice can attack at any time – anywhere. Put forty or more kids together and you are bound to deal with pesky lice at some point or another.
I never send my son to camp without Lice Shield 2 in 1 Shampoo & Conditioner ($10.99) which you can get at Walmart and Lice Shield leave-in conditioner ($10.99) which you can spray into their hats, scarves or anything they wear to shield them from a lice attack so they can run around and play without worrying.
Lice Shield is non-tox using a blend of natural oil extracts to repel lice that include Citronella (mosquito repellent also) and Eucalyptus.
Lipsmackers Lip Balm
One thing my son always suffers from during the summer heat is dry cracked lips. They bleed and peel and become sore. That’s no fun when at camp.
Lip Smackers offer amazing character lip balms that are safe, taste good and help keep your lips moisturized against the elements. Lip Smackers has everything from Belle (Beauty and the Beast) to Spiderman and The Avengers for boys.
Hit your local Walmart for Lip Smackers which retail for under $5 bucks usually and worth every single penny!
Filtered Water Bottle
I don’t know about your kids but getting Trace to drink water is like pulling teeth. He hates water. So I went out and picked him up a Zero Water Bottle that filters the water he puts into it, removing up to 5x the impurities and he loves it.
I put a label on it for camp, of course, but having fresh water to drink is an absolute must for camp in order to keep kids hydrated while running around.
