Julie Andrews is old hat when it comes to working with animation, children’s shows, puppets and Jim Henson. She teams up now with Netflix for her new show geared at pre-schoolers called Julie’s Greenroom, a Netflix Original. The show will bring the performing arts to a new generation of kids known as the “Greenies,” a diverse group of kids who are mesmerized by all that the arts and creativity has to offer.
Sound of Music
Of course, I fell in love with Julie Andrews as did the world in the Sound of Music. She sung and danced her way, along with the Von Trapp family into our hearts. Her beautiful nature, gorgeous porcelain skin and classic good-looks along with a voice that was truly magnificent made her one of the most beloved Hollywood actresses and stage performers of our time.
Julie has made a career in movies but has always taken time to promote music to children around the world. Here she is with some lovable characters from Sesame Street.
The Muppet Show
Julie has also worked with my favorite The Muppets over the span of her career several times. Doing the Muppet Show and starring in some of their films, along with several DVD releases.
Lest not forget Julie’s sugary sweetness in Mary Poppins where she sung and danced to animated cartoons created by Walt Disney alongside Dick Van Dyke. Another favorite of mine.
One of my favorite performances of Julie Andrews was one most people haven’t seen or long forgotten where she sings to Kermit. When you were a Tadpole and I was a fish is so wonderful!
Julie’s Greenroom is set to air exclusively to Netflix members early 2017. There will be 13 half hour episodes and most will feature original songs and guest stars such as Alec Baldwin, Sara Bareilles, Joshua Bell, Tituss Burgess, Carol Burnett, Chris Colfer, Robert Fairchild, Josh Groban, David Hyde Pierce, Bill Erwin, Ellie Kemper, Idina Menzel, Tiler Peck, and Stomp.
Ms. Andrews quotes “This project represents the fulfillment of a long held dream to educate children about the wonder of arts. I’m thrilled to be partnering with my daughter and long time coauthor, Emma, to bring this show to life along with our co-creator, Judy Rothman- Rofė. We could not be more honored to be working with the extraordinary Jim Henson Company. We are equally delighted to be premiering as a Netflix original production.”
