Note: Spoilers if you haven’t watched the original Gilmore Girls which is trending right now on Netflix btw so get over there and watch it!
How many of you remember weekly watching this? I mean as soon as the theme song came on, I jumped to the couch with snacks and settled in for an hour of fun, laughter and tears.
Gilmore Girls is one of the most iconic shows ever to hit television. Every girl I know watched it, whether you could relate or not to Rory and Lorelai’s relationship. The show was more than just about mother and daughter. It was about growing up, making mistakes, finding yourself, learning, loving and laughing.
Well now the cast of Gilmore Girls is back with a brand new series: Gilmore Girls: A Year in the life and it seems as if they never left us. The show builds on strengthen relationships between mothers and daughters. In fact Netflix released some data that proves shows like Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life actually help moms and their girls bond.
61% of mothers and daughters feel sharing TV shows with each other helps them build a stronger relationship
A recent survey revealed that almost half of women (45%) wish they spoke to their mother more often
More than half of mother-daughter duos surveyed (54%) report post-show discussions are the best part of sharing a show together
Almost half of moms and daughters (45%) think watching together brings them closer
I’m ready for date night as you can see. I’ve got my Luke’s cafe mugs, some treats, pop tarts and even trivia on the Gilmore Girls which I expect to win at BTW.
Netflix is encouraging women to invite their moms to this date night to splurge and catch the show. In many ways my mom is like Lorelai’s, though not wealthy or as stuck up. My mom is set in her ways and likes things a certain way, and I am like Lorelai where I constantly feel as though I’m a disappointment and can’t live up to my mom’s expectations, even though I know her only expectations of me are for me to be happy.
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life launched on Netflix November 25th. But it’s not too late for you to make a Date Night with Mom. In fact I highly recommend it. There is no better time than the holidays to share a cup of coffee or cocoa and some laughs with the woman who made you who are today.
Download which invite you want to send to mom. You can be Mrs. Kim. You can be Rory. No matter which character you choose just make to make the night memorable for each other. And if you haven’t seen the original Gilmore Girls before, we won’t judge. Seasons 1 through 7 are streaming right now on Netflix.
If you have seen the show then you don’t want to wait to see Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life as Rory heads home, jobless, lost, confused and in need of her mother, friends, and family. The entire cast is gathered around her and I have to say I got teary just watching the trailer below leading into the new series. Seeing the Gilmore Girls again is like seeing an old friend come home right when you need them to.
