One thing I love about the holidays is doing my nails. I love going through each season and festivity with a different work of art painted for the world to see. But prepping for holiday nails can sometimes be exhausting. After running around for decorations, gifts, preparing that big ole’ turkey feast, we sometimes forget the damage our nails can take.
Rita Remark Canadian Nail Stylist has some helpful tips with her Essie favorites and mine on how to do up your nails so they can look festive as the new year rolls around.
“Nail art for the holidays doesn’t need to be complicated and can certainly be achieved at home. I love adding a small charm at the base of my nail by adding one or two dots of metallic nail polish like Essie’s “Penny Talk”. Dip the end of a bobby pin into your metallic shade of choice and then dab it lightly onto the middle of the moon of each nail. You can use this technique to frame your nails in small dots or create a charming french tip with dots along the edge of your nail.”
“Painting a line of gold polish across the tip of a bare nail is a great balance of glam meets minimalism and a great conversation starter at any event. Metallics can also act as a neutral, so you can wear this style with everything!”
Christmas is over but I still want my nails to look festive and bright for the new year. So here are some of my top picks of polish which are my go-to for keeping my own nails dazzling!
Two of the hottest shades this year were red and black. I love “Wicked” because it’s more a black cherry and cleverly captures both colors with equal balance. Suitable for the holidays and well after, this vampy shade looks absolutely incredible with a super glossy top coat such as Essie’s “Gel Setter” which dries so friggin fast, I love it!
Go Go Geisha
I love this cool mauve-nude color which is one of Essie’s best sellers. You can see why. It was released last fall, but it’s a contemporary color, great for french tips and offers a pretty balance to anything glitter or gold you might be wearing. It’s also one of the hottest wedding shade, and you don’t have to be a bride to enjoy it!
The name says it all with a smoky, flattering hint of violet. Purples are one of my favorite hues for polishes, and this polish has an almost charcoal tint to it that goes with everything and anything I might wear!
Metallics are my fav when it comes to polishes and I’m just about out of this one. Penny Talk is a warm rose-gold metallic which you can use over your entire nail or as an accent to any nail art design you wish to create. Great for any holiday, it’s got style and will perfectly coordinate with what you are wearing. Looks great as a stand alone on your toes, too!
