Disney’s Tangled was one of my favorite movies. How can you not love a girl with long, golden hair that can heal? Well now Rapunzel is back in a prelude to the Tangled: TV series which premiered earlier this March in Tangled: Before Ever After.
Back with funny, Eugene Fitzherbert (Flynn Rider) by her side, this movie is set after Tangled but before Tangled Ever After. Okay, are we on board now with the timeline? Good. Here are the first 5 minutes of the movie for you enjoy before I tell you how great it is to have Rapunzel back in action.
So, as you can see Rapunzel is about to become the princess at her coronation. The movie explores how she ends up with 50 feet of long, flowing magical hair again and how her hair plays a significant role in the movie. With Eugene, Pascal, and Maximus next to her, Rapunzel begins to struggle as she learns what it takes to be the daughter of the King and Queen and how to be a princess. Her duties leave her feeling a bit like a fish out of water, and you can’t help but want to see her explore in finding herself after being a prisoner for so many years by her (sort of kinda witch of a mom).
My favorite aspect of this movie is how Flynn (Eugene) and Rapunzel interact with one another. The scene where she overlooks the kingdom and asks him “Have you ever seen anything so beautiful?” and he’s looking at her, replying “Yes, I have.” Okay, it leaves me feeling all squishy inside with yucky-love-mushy-happiness.
Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi return from the original film. I do have to tell you that this movie and the series are both filmed in 2D not 3D as the first Tangled movie was done. However, it does not take away from the film, if anything it adds some character. There are some wonderful songs that contribute to the film as Rapunzel explores her life.
Final Verdict: Both Tangled: Before Ever After and the Disney Series are worth watching. Magical in every way, the characters are brought to life once again for us to enjoy. Rapunzel is her usual spunky and feisty self, despite dealing with overbearing parents, and her lack of self-esteem while trying to figure out the world around her. Adventure awaits, and Rapunzel loves adventure!
